iOS 15 would remove support for iPhone 6s

Apple is already working on the next iteration of iOS for the iPhone, though the whole thing is still in the early days and almost nothing is currently finalized.

But what seems to be a decision that’s set in stone is the iPhones to be supported by iOS 15, as according to a recent report, Apple is planning some pretty big changes on this front.

More specifically, the next iOS update could remove support for the original 4-inch iPhone SE and the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which means that only the iPhone 7 and newer would be supported.

While this is something that might frustrate some users, it’s a decision that really makes sense, especially because the latest two iOS releases haven’t brought any changes in this regard.

iOS 15 due in September 2021

For example, iOS 14 continues to support the same iPhone lineup as iOS 13, so you can install this operating system version on the iPhone 6s and newer. But if this report is true, then iOS 14 is pretty much the last major update this model receives, after which customers would have to upgrade to a newer device should they want to run the latest iOS versions.

For the time being, however, it’s important to keep in mind that iOS 15 is still in its early phases, and such information should now be taken with a pinch of salt.

In the meantime, Apple keeps working on refining the experience with iOS 14, as the company has started shipping more updates to introduce not only new capabilities but also to refine the existing features with more bug fixes.

iPhone 12, for example, has recently been updated with iOS 14.2.1, and this release brings exclusive fixes, including for display problems encountered on the small iPhone 12 mini.
