Apple Watch Series 8 will tell if you have a fever

The next-generation Apple Watch is expected to launch in September, and the closer we get to the unveiling date, the more information we get from unofficial channels.

This time, Apple watcher Mark Gurman says the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 will come with a notable hardware upgrade that will land in the form of a body temperature sensor.

In other words, the next Apple Watch will be able to take your body temperature, though contrary to what most people expected, the device is unlikely to provide a specific reading, like your current body temperature.

On the other hand, the Cupertino-based tech giant looks to be aiming for a safer approach that will have the Apple Watch estimate if you have a fever or not. As a result, the smartwatch could recommend the wearer to use a dedicated thermometer to determine the actual body temperature and therefore figure out if they indeed have a fever or not.

In some cases, such as when the detected body temperature might be too high, the Apple Watch could even recommend the owner to go see a doctor.

Not coming to the SE 2

The body temperature sensor will be available on both the Apple Watch Series 8 and the upcoming rugged version, often referred to as Apple Watch Series 8 Pro. The next-generation Apple Watch SE, on the other hand, is unlikely to come with this hardware upgrade.

Apple’s new body temperature sensor will require FDA approval, so most likely, the company is already in the process of obtaining regulatory clearance before the September unveiling.

Other than the new sensor, the Apple Watch Series 8 is unlikely to come with any other major hardware upgrades, though the star of the show is expected to be the more rugged version. As per previous reports, this particular model could come with a larger screen, a tougher body, and a bigger battery for expanded autonomy.
