Windows 11 build 22598 ISO images are live

Microsoft rolled out Windows 11 build 22598 earlier today, and the company has also announced new ISO images that make it possible for users to start from scratch.

Worth keeping in mind is that the ISO images still install a preview build of Windows 11, so they should only be used by users in the Windows Insider program.

Dev and Beta channels still on the same build

Last month, Microsoft shipped the very same Windows 11 preview build to both the Dev and the Beta channels, therefore giving insiders the opportunity of switching from one channel to another as needed.

Given the same build is now live for both channels, this option continues to be available, though Microsoft says the switch should be performed as soon as possible.

Once different builds are shipped to the two channels, the transition will no longer be allowed, so users will have to start from scratch and clean-install the operating system to change channels.

“This window will close once we release builds with higher build numbers to the Dev Channel. If your device stays on the Dev Channel and receives a build that is a higher build number than what is in the Beta Channel, you will have to do a clean installation of the released version of Windows 11 on your device to switch to the Beta Channel,” Microsoft explains.

Microsoft also reminds insiders that the Dev channel is the place to try out new features that don’t necessarily have an ETA.

“The Dev Channel will be a place where we will try out different concepts, incubate new ideas, and work on long lead items that may not get released to general customers. The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship,” it says.
