Microsoft to ship this month’s Patch Tuesday updates today

Windows users should prepare for a new round of updates as Microsoft is set to begin the June 2020 Patch Tuesday rollout in just a few hours.

And as it typically happens on a Patch Tuesday, Windows 10 versions are also projected to receive new cumulative updates bringing not only security improvements but also other refinements and bug fixes.

All Windows 10 versions are getting patched this month – those that have already been discontinued for consumers continue to be serviced either for the Enterprise and Education SKUs or as part of the LTSC.

But worth noting is that Windows 10 May 2020 Update, or version 2004, is getting its very first public cumulative update after the public launch a couple of weeks ago.

Windows 10 May 2020 Update is currently rolling out to users across the world, albeit for now, only devices running version 1903 and 1909 are getting it. Users must manually check for updates in Windows Update, as the automatic rollout of the May update hasn’t started just yet.

Focus on security fixes

It goes without saying that today’s update cycle is mostly about security patches, so all the new cumulative updates will include new improvements for vulnerabilities discovered in the operating system and the pre-loaded components. This means everyone is recommended to update as soon as possible, albeit some prefer to wait for one more day or two in order to determine update reliability first.

All updates will be shipped via Windows Update and WSUS, while manual download links will be published on the Microsoft Update Catalog, so users and IT admins can also download the patches and deploy them manually on their devices.

We’ll keep an eye on everything related to these updates and let you know should any issues be discovered during or after the installation on Windows 10 devices.
