Microsoft publishes fresh ISO images for insiders

Microsoft has released new Windows 10 21H1 ISO images for insiders who want to start fresh on their computers or simply try out the new feature update in a virtual machine.

The new ISOs that are available from the Insider page allow the installation of build 19043, which was released recently for testers in the Beta channel.

Needless to say, the ISO image allows the installation of a preview version of Windows 10, so you shouldn’t use it on your main device. This is still an Insider build, with Microsoft projected to ship the upcoming 21H1 feature update at some point this spring.

Just a small update

Microsoft itself has already confirmed that Windows 10 21H1 is supposed to be just a small update, with the focus to be on under-the-hood improvements and less on new features.

“Based on feedback and learnings during the past year of extensive remote work, learning and play, version 21H1 will be delivered with servicing technology (like that used for the monthly update process and how 20H2 was delivered).  Windows 10, version 21H1 will have a scoped set of features improving security, remote access and quality. The features we are releasing in this update are focused on the core experiences that customers have told us they’re relying on most right now. So, we optimized this release to support our customers’ most pressing needs,” Microsoft announced recently.

Windows 10 21H1 will thus land as a quality update and will thus be available for a super-fast install on devices already running Windows 10 version 2004 or 20H2.

Microsoft says the public rollout is projected to happen in the first half of this year, and based on the typical release calendar, this should mean the update is likely to go live in either April or June for the first wave of production devices.
