Microsoft to ship cumulative updates for Windows 10 tomorrow

Microsoft will release a new wave of Windows 10 cumulative updates tomorrow as part of the October 2019 Patch Tuesday rollout.

All Windows 10 version will get new cumulative updates, albeit it’s worth knowing that only Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 Update) and newer are still supported for Home and Pro SKUs.

Older releases are only supported for Education and Enterprise SKUs or devices in the LTSC channel.

At the same time, October 8 could be the day when Microsoft begins the rollout of Windows 10 19H2. This “feature” update for Windows 10 was presumably finalized in September as version 1909 and will land as a regular cumulative update, as compared to a full new build as it was the case of previous such releases.

Microsoft hasn’t yet announced the release date of Windows 10 19H2, but given this new distribution model, it makes sense for the company to publish it on Patch Tuesday for the first wave of devices.

Security patches

Given these new updates will be published on Patch Tuesday, their main focus will be fixing security problems in Windows 10 and the built-in components.

However, other smaller refinements and bug fixes will be included as well, as Microsoft still has a bunch of glitches to resolve in Windows 10.

As it’s the case of every Patch Tuesday, many are worried that the new cumulative updates could break down some Windows 10 features, as this has become a rather common behavior lately. For example, the latest optional cumulative updates shipped in late September broke down the Start menu for some, despite being supposed to resolve a printing issue in the operating system.

As we do every month, we’ll keep an eye on everything related to this new cumulative update rollout and report to you should any problems be discovered.
