14 DAY TRIAL // We’re only a few weeks away from Microsoft’s hardware event on October 2 when new Surface models are expected to be revealed, and more information on these coming announcements keeps making the rounds on a regular basis.
This time, what we have here is an unknown Surface model featuring latest-generation hardware, and this could be an indication that the device may be none other than the Surface Pro 7.
A Geekbench benchmark discovered by WL reveals a product called OEMJL OEMJL Product Name EV1.5A and coming with Intel 10th Generation Ice Lake chips.
The processor is the Intel Core i5-1035G1 and runs at 3.60 GHz with Turbo Boost mode, being paired with 8GB RAM.
Because specifics aren’t available for the time being, we can only speculate this is the Surface Pro 7, albeit similar hardware upgrades could also make their way to the Surface Book and the Surface Laptop.
More Surface upgrades
Microsoft is expected to refresh the hardware on these two models as well, but for the time being, no details other than the latest-generation Intel chips being used are available.
The October 2 hardware event is also expected to witness the introduction of a dual-screen Surface model that Microsoft could use to pioneer to debut of a new product category. This device has been in the works since at least 2016 or 2017, according to people familiar with the matter, and could go on sale either later this year or in early 2020.
In other words, the October 2 event might not necessarily mark the official launch of this Surface device, but its first public appearance ahead of a debut planned for a later time.
Microsoft has obviously remained tight-lipped on everything related to the new Surface models, so take such reports with a pinch of salt for now.
