Microsoft has just released a new firmware update for the original Surface Book, and the changelog is massive, albeit it includes mostly security improvements additional system stability refinements.

The company has recently launched the third-generation Surface Book, but the original model continues to be one very popular device, and firmware updates are supposed to polish the experience overall.

The new firmware update includes everything from Bluetooth and Wi-Fi driver updates to improve the connection stability and add support for new products to new GeForce GTX drivers (on the Surface Book configurations offered with a dedicated GPU).

The new display drivers include security updates and improve the system stability, as explained in the official changelog (which you can check in full in the box after the jump should you want more information).

Windows 10 version 1809 or newer required

Overall, this is new firmware update brings lots of changes, and the Surface Book experience should be greatly improved after installing it, even though most of the things happen under the hood. But given this update also includes security improvements, it goes without saying that everyone should install it as soon as possible.

What you need to know is that you’ll need Windows 10 October 2018 Update and newer on your Surface Book to be able to install the new firmware update. If you’re already running the November 2019 Update, which is the most recent stable version of the operating system, you should be just fine and most likely, the firmware update should already be there waiting for your input.

A system reboot will be required to complete the installation of the firmware update and don’t forget to keep it plugged when during the whole thing to avoid interrupting the process, something that can lead to other issues with the device.
