Microsoft has released a new preview build of Microsoft Office, this time for users running the productivity suite on their Apple computers and part of the Preview Channel.

With this release, the Office build is increased to version 16.56 (21120200), and it includes several important changes, including for enhanced privacy while screen sharing.

Given the awkward times we’re struggling to deal with, screen sharing has become a very common thing, especially for people who are still working remotely.

This is why Microsoft has decided to add privacy improvements for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents when sharing the screen with someone else, including blocking the connected user from taking a screenshot of a sensitive document.

“With remote meetings on apps like Teams now commonplace, there is increased risk that private Office files will be inadvertently exposed while sharing your screen. So we’ve introduced new security policies into Office to address this. This feature now prevents the screen capture and screen sharing of sensitive documents that have been previously labeled with Microsoft Information Protection policies. If you try to screen-share a document for which you do not have Edit permissions, the action will be automatically blocked,” Microsoft explains, as per MSPU.

Accessibility improvements

And then, this update comes with new accessibility improvements, this time aimed specifically at PowerPoint. The app is therefore being updated with an improved ribbon that makes it easier to reach the accessibility features in a document.

“Making your presentation accessible to people with disabilities requires knowledge, compassion, and special tools. The new Accessibility ribbon in PowerPoint for Mac helps you accomplish this by bringing all the tools you need together in one place. To open the Accessibility ribbon, click Check Accessibility on the Review tab,” Microsoft says.

The new update can already be downloaded by Office insiders running Mac builds in the Preview Channel.
