Microsoft is expected to announce its new-generation Surface models as soon as October, and the closer we get to this event, the more information emerges through unofficial channels.

This time, a report from WinFuture drops a very interesting tidbit regarding the processor options available on the Surface Laptop.

More specifically, the source claims that Microsoft plans to ditch the AMD version of the Surface Laptop, which means that the device would be equipped exclusively with Intel processors. While the information isn’t 100 percent certain at this point, the 12th Gen Intel processors will certainly be used on the new Surface Laptop, so the only question is whether they’d be offered alongside AMD variants or not.

AMD chip developed “in collaboration with Microsoft”

Surface devices powered by AMD chips were fitted with a custom processor that was developed in collaboration with the software giant, and needless to say, both companies praised the partnership on every occasion.

Microsoft also bragged about the performance of the so-called Ryzen Microsoft Surface Edition processor, claiming it made the device the fastest in its class.

“The Surface Laptop 4 with AMD Ryzen 7 Microsoft Surface Edition processor is the fastest in its class, providing exceptional laptop performance, a smooth flow across browser tabs and fast, multitasking speed across all applications. With AMD Ryzen technology, users can expect,” the company said when it announced the all-new Surface Laptop 4.

“We love teaming up with Microsoft as it gives us an opportunity to work closely on delivering a custom processor, built with AMD Ryzen technology. The latest Surface laptops with AMD processors represent a massive generational improvement, with Microsoft reporting 70% faster performance over the previous generation,” AMD further continued.

At this point, we should just take the removal of an AMD option with a pinch of salt, but more information on the actual processor versions on the new Laptop will be announced in just a few weeks.
