Centered logo also playing a second role for charging

Apple will unveil the new iPhones tomorrow, and just when we thought we already know everything about them thanks to the plethora of leaks making the rounds lately, here’s a new report from Bloomberg pointing to a rather clever refinement on the back.

By the looks of things, Apple wants to change the position of the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone, especially as it’s introducing a bigger camera module.

The logo will now be centered, and in addition to being placed lower than on the current models, it’ll also play a secondary role for a more straightforward charging process of other devices like Apple Watch or AirPods.

Specifically, thanks to the reverse wireless feature, iPhone owners will be able to recharge their other Apple devices, all by simply putting them close to each other. The centered Apple logo will thus be an indicator as to where to place the Apple Watch or the AirPods when trying to use the iPhone as a wireless charger.

iPhone branding likely going away

What’s more interesting is what will happen to the iPhone branding on the back.

People familiar with the matter previously suggested the Cupertino-based tech giant would give up on the iPhone branding completely, as the company wanted to go only for the center Apple logo.

While a confirmation doesn’t exist right now, the centered Apple logo does make the whole thing more likely because the lower part of the iPhone would thus become more crowded if the branding is retained.

All three models are expected to feature these changes. The trio will include successors to the current models, albeit the naming could be different as well, with Apple expected to unveil the iPhone 11 as the upgraded iPhone XR, alongside the iPhone 11 Pro (iPhone XS successor) and iPhone 11 Pro Max (the refined sibling of the iPhone XS Max).
