The new ads are part of the iPhone 13 push

Apple has released new ads to praise the splash resistance of the iPhone 13, as well as the durability of the Ceramic Shield that protects the device.

Called “Shake” and “Edge,” the new ads are part of Apple’s iPhone 13 marketing push, though, at the same time, the company also seems to be trying to make it a little bit clearer that the device is spill and splash resistant only.

While the device comes with an IP68 rating, Apple strongly recommends against submerging an iPhone in water or taking a shower with it.

In theory, the device can easily withstand swimming or bathing, but Apple says the device is only resistant to accidental spills and splashes.

“iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone SE (2nd generation), iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR are resistant to accidental spills from common liquids, such as soda, beer, coffee, tea, and juice. In the event of a spill, rinse the affected area with tap water, then wipe your iPhone off and dry it,” the company explains.

The Cupertino-based tech giant also says that using the iPhone in a sauna or Steam room is not recommended, and the same thing for using the iPhone on a jet ski or while surfing.

Accidents do happen, and Apple says the first thing you should do is to wipe the device with a soft cloth.

“To dry your iPhone, tap it gently against your hand with the Lightning connector facing down to remove excess liquid. Leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow. Placing your iPhone in front of a fan blowing cool air directly into the Lightning connector might help the drying process,” Apple explains.
