14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 May 2019 Update is just around the corner, with Microsoft planning to begin the public rollout later this month.
While the update is already in the RTM stage and available for users in the Release Preview ring, there are several issues that Microsoft is working on resolving before giving its go-ahead for the launch.
And one of them concerns Creative sound cards that could eventually force the company to set an upgrade block on computers where such hardware is detected.
Microsoft explained in the release notes of Windows 10 build 18362, which has since been serviced with multiple cumulative updates, that it discovered an issue with Creative sound cards.
“Creative X-Fi sound cards are not functioning properly. We are partnering with Creative to resolve this issue,” Microsoft said.
New drivers around the corner
And by the looks of things, the new drivers that would address this issue are just around the corner, with a Creative engineer recently confirming on reddit (via DeskModder) that the release should take place sometime very soon.
“We have a couple driver packages coming up in the next few days that will address these issues. Titanium, XtremeMusic, and XtremeGamer cards will be included with the fixes. I'm expecting to see them go live by the end of this week. TitaniumHD card also has a fix coming but it will be a few more days for it to hit. I'll keep everyone updated on this timing as well,” the Creative official explained last week.
The new drivers, however, aren’t yet up for grabs, albeit they should go live in the coming days.
The last major issue that could block the upgrade to the May update concerns Realtek SD card readers, with Microsoft recommending users to disconnect these from USB before installing the update. A fix is already in the works for this bug too.
