While the non-Pro devices will stick with older chips

The closer we get to the September launch event of the new-generation iPhone, the more information reaches the web, and this time, it’s the turn of super-reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo to share something quite important.

The next iPhone series will obviously come with a new Apple A16 chip, but according to Kuo, it will only be used on the Pro models.

This means the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will indeed be equipped with an A16 processor, whereas the standard (non-Pro) models will use the A15 chip that’s installed on the current models (possibly with some additional optimizations).

Kuo says this will also generate some changes in shipment proportion, with the manufacturers of certain iPhone Pro components obviously to benefit from this new strategy.

The new strategy going forward

“The marked increase in the shipment proportion of iPhone 14 high-end models benefits the major high-end component suppliers of the rear camera, including Sony (CIS), Largan (lens), Alps (VCM/OIS), and LG Innotek (CCM),” Kuo explains.

“Thanks to the increase in the shipment proportion of the iPhone 14 high-end models, the significant YoY growth for the output value of iPhone 14’s rear CIS, lens, VCM/OIS, and CCM would be 30–35%, 20–25%, 15–20 %, and 30–35%, respectively. Excluding the lower-spec ToF, the shipment allocations for iPhone 14 Pro’s rear camera components of Sony (CIS), Largan (lens), Alps (VCM/OIS), and LG Innotek (CCM) are 100%, 60–70%, 60–70%, and 100%, respectively.”

The Apple analyst says this is the approach that Apple is going to use moving forward, which means that all new iPhones will use a new-generation chip as long as they carry the Pro tags. Otherwise, the standard iPhones will always stick with a previous-generation processor, possibly with additional optimizations and improvements.
