Second-generation iPhone SE is almost here

Apple is expected to take the wraps off the next-generation iPhone SE in just a few months, and according to top-rated Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the device will be priced from $399.

This means the iPhone SE 2 could become a very appealing purchase from a pricing perspective, albeit as far as the hardware goes, there will be some substantial changes versus the more premium siblings.

First and foremost, the analyst explains that iPhone SE 2 will be based from one end to another on the iPhone 8, so it’ll have a similar look and dimensions. In other words, it’ll feature a 4.7-inch LCD display without a notch and a Home button with integrated Touch ID. Face ID is unlikely to be offered.

This is an approach that Apple has also used before on the original iPhone SE, which used the look of the iPhone 5s with latest-generation hardware.

Three colors, two storage options

This will be the case on the iPhone SE 2 as well, as the device will come with Apple’s A13 chip, the same currently offered on the iPhone 11 family, but only with 3GB RAM, down from 4GB on the more premium models. A single-lens camera is also expected, just like on the original iPhone 8.

Kuo says Apple will sell the iPhone SE 2 in two storage configurations, namely 64 GB and 128 GB, and there will be three color options, including silver, space gray, and red.

Just as expected, 3D Touch would no longer be offered despite being installed on the iPhone 8. Apple, however, has already removed 3D Touch from the new-generation iPhones, and the company will stick with a software-based approach moving forward.

The analyst says iPhone SE 2 is very likely to become a highly-successful model, and 2020 sales estimates are currently at 30 million units.
