Apple’s iPhone already supports fast charging starting with the 2017 generation, but rumor has it that the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning some significant upgrades in this regard.

Faster fast charging appears to be a priority for the company, and a leak that happened only a few hours ago seems to confirm this. Photos of what could be the new fast charger for the 2018 iPhone reached the web, allegedly indicating that Apple does plan to offer an 18W USB Type-C adapter right in the box of new models.

With this new charger, Apple hopes to bring its latest-generation iPhones in line with the top Android models on the market, most of them already supporting fast charging with much-improved specs.

Furthermore, the 2018 generation could represent a major change in terms of sales strategy for Apple, as the company could offer the fast charger right in the box of new iPhones. At this point, the 30W fast charger for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X Plus can only be purchased from the Apple Store for $49 without a cable.

Instead, what you get when purchasing a new iPhone is a 5W charger that’s incredibly slow, despite fast charging capabilities bundled into the new models. Technically, with an iPhone X topping at $1,049, customers need to spend an extra $49 for the fast charger, eventually paying $1,200 to benefit from full capabilities of the latest iPhone model.

Apple will take the wraps off the new iPhone models in September, and this time three different devices are said to be in the works.

In addition to a successor to the iPhone X, Apple will also introduce a Plus-sized version with a 6.5-inch display, as well as a more affordable configuration with a 6.1-inch LCD panel. Most likely, this cheaper version won’t feature fast charging, therefore coming without this adapter.
