14 DAY TRIAL // The developers behind the Netrunner Linux operating system announced over the weekend the availability of a new Rolling release with all the latest KDE technologies and recent software updates.
Netrunner Rolling 2018.08 is here as the second installment for 2018, incorporating the KDE Plasma 5.13.3 desktop environment, along with the KDE Applications 18.04 and KDE Frameworks 5.48 software suites compiled against the Qt 5.11.1 application framework, as well as the Firefox Quantum 61.0 web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird 52.5 email and news client, and Krita 4.1.1 digital painting app.
"Despite the hot summer in most of Europe, the Netrunner Team is happy to announce the immediate availability of Netrunner Rolling 2018.08 – 64bit ISO," reads today's announcement. "2018.08 comes with some new Plasma Theme that has some transparency built in to allow for experimenting with the new Blur options. It also features a new default wallpaper style, because… why not."
Introducing Plasma Tweaks, seamless GTK+ apps
In addition to the software updates mentioned above, the Netrunner Rolling 2018.08 release introduces support for running seamless GTK+ apps that now use KWin borders for better integration with the KDE Plasma desktop environment, as well as a new feature called Plasma Tweaks, which lets users easily access and configure various KCM modules of the KDE Plasma desktop environment.
Under the hood, Netrunner Rolling 2018.08 is powered by the Linux 4.17 kernel. As its name suggests, the Netrunner Rolling operating system follows a rolling release model as it's based on Manjaro Linux, which, in turn, is based on the famous Arch Linux distribution. You can download the Netrunner Rolling 2018.08 release right now through our web portal for new installations on 64-bit computers, but existing users need only to update their installations.
