Today, NETGEAR has rolled out a new firmware package developed for its R6400 wireless router, namely version 1.0.1.20, which manages to improve security protection on the device’s web server, as well as port forwarding.

In addition to that, the current update removes the security threat in which the password recovery mechanism might disclose the password recovery token and fixes the issue where some speed tests might show a drop in performance.

Moreover, NETGEAR also resolves the DDoS false detect problems when accessing multiple IP CAMs from the Internet, as well as the insecure timestamp password vulnerability (PSV-2016-0254).

If these changes match your needs, save and unzip the downloadable archive, and establish a wired connection between NETGEAR’s Wireless unit and the computer that contains the firmware.

Now enter the router’s administration page, go to Maintenance > Router Upgrade > Browse, select the newly unzipped .img file, hit “Upload,” and allow the unit to perform the installation.

Bear in mind that, while in progress, removing Ethernet/power cables from the devices, closing the web browser, powering down the router/computer, or interrupting the installation in any way will cause serious malfunctions to the wireless unit.

That said, download NETGEAR R6400 Router Firmware 1.0.1.20, carefully apply it to your device by following the steps described above, and enjoy your newly improved wireless unit.
