More powerful Surface model likely in the works

A new Microsoft Surface model has recently been spotted online with an even more powerful configuration, yet for the time being, very little is known about Microsoft’s plans for this device.

The Surface Laptop 3 that was announced earlier this year came with AMD’s Ryzen 7 3780U and Ryzen 5 3580U chips, and now it looks like Microsoft is working on an upgraded version that would feature the Ryzen 7 4800U.

While this isn’t necessarily surprising, the benchmark revealed on Twitter and reported by WL seems to suggest that the debut of this model could actually be closer than anyone expected.

And of course, nobody knows for sure what Surface model this processor is supposed to power.

New Surface model? Rather unlikely

Since the Surface Book and the Surface Laptop lineups have only recently been refreshed, some suggest that this could be an entirely new Surface model that could get the go-ahead rather sooner than later.

And because Microsoft is preparing to announce the Surface Duo dual-screen Android phone in the coming weeks, this could make sense at some level, as the two devices could be launched together, most likely as part of a virtual event or just using a press release.

However, I believe there’s a bigger chance that this is just an upgraded version of the Surface Laptop 3 rather than a completely new model. Most likely, Microsoft is testing a new hardware configuration for the Surface Laptop 3 that could target either power users or businesses, in which case the device would be sold only through the official business channels.

Whatever the case, a more powerful Surface is coming, and we should technically find out more about it in the coming weeks, as this benchmarks suggests that the release is closer than anticipated. When exactly the debut is supposed to take place is something that still remains to be seen.
