Microsoft is expected to hold a new Surface event in just a few days, with the company very likely to announce at least two new models that would go on sale by the end of the year.

While the information that is available right now continues to be super-limited, Microsoft watcher WalkingCat has recently disclosed that the Redmond-based software giant could be holding a Surface event on September 30 or October 1.

The date isn’t certain right now because of the time zone difference, but what seems to be all but confirmed right now is that a Surface event is just around the corner.

New Surface models

For the time being, it looks like the second-generation Surface Pro X is one of the models that could be announced at this mysterious event, and at some level, this makes perfect sense.

The Surface Pro X hasn’t necessarily been the successful product that Microsoft hoped it would become, and not a long time ago, it was rumored that the company was already working on a new model powered by a new chip based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx processor. Interestingly enough, this chip would also come with 5G support, but it’s still unclear if Microsoft wants to offer 5G capabilities on this device.

At the same time, a lower-end Surface Laptop could also be announced. Internally called Sparti, this device could come with a 12.5-inch display and be powered by an Intel Core i5 processor paired with 4GB RAM. According to people familiar with the matter, Microsoft’s plan is to sell this new Surface model with a price tag between $500 and $600.

Needless to say, Microsoft has remained completely tight-lipped on everything, so we just have to wait a few more days until the company officially confirms the event.
