Mozilla joins forces with Mailfence for a new mail option

Mozilla Thunderbird remains one of the best desktop email clients available today, and starting recently, it offers one new encrypted mail service.

It’s Mailfence, the platform that promises full user privacy and whose parent company doesn’t necessarily agree with the approach used by what it calls “Big Tech companies.”

“We live in times of ever growing Internet domination by Big Tech companies. These have repeatedly shown a total disrespect of online privacy and oblige their users to sign away their privacy through unreadable Terms of Service,” Mailfence explained in an announcement a few days ago.

So Thunderbird will now provide users with a Mailfence option, thus being able to create a new account right from the email client, with more options coming later this year.

More options already on their way

For example, users will be able to enable automatic Mailfence tools that would allow them to have their email, calendar, contacts, and encryption keys roam across devices.

“This collaboration is probably the most important one we’ve done up to date. Our partnership shows that the secure email industry is picking up Steam and growing fast. With Thunderbird on our side, our willingness to fight for fundamental human rights grows even stronger,” Mailfence explained.

“To conclude, we cannot wait to show you what we have in-store regarding our Thunderbird deal. Creating an account via the Thunderbird interface is just a taste. This wouldn’t be possible if we didn’t have your support. We thank each and everyone for your patience and years of support. The Thunderbird collaboration is just a beginning for us. Mailfence is looking forward to partnering with more liked minded projects that respect user privacy and put the user at the forefront.”

If you have already installed the most recent Thunderbird version, you can just head over to Account Actions and click the Get a New Email address button to create a new Mailfence account right from within the app.
