Mozilla released today the Mozilla Thunderbird 60 open-source email, calendar, and news client for all supported platforms, including GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows.

In development for the past several months, the Mozilla Thunderbird 60 release is a major one adding numerous new features and improvements, including new Light and Dark themes, OAuth2 authentication support for Yahoo and AOL accounts, individual update interval for RSS feeds, and support for WebExtension themes.

Attachments handling during email compose has been greatly improved in Mozilla Thunderbird 60, which adds a new "Delete" button in the To/Cc/Bcc selector when writing emails to allow you to remove a recipient. Also, users can now re-order attachments using drag and drop, keyboard shortcuts, or a dialog.

This release also introduces new "Edit Template" and "New Message from Template" commands, the ability to change the Spellcheck Language directly from the statusbar, FIDO U2F support, as well as experimental support for converting folders from the mbox to the maildir format and vice versa.

Users can now also configure a default startup directory in the address book window and set the date/time display to follow system's default locale or regional settings via an option implemented under Tools -> Options, Advanced, General, which will allow US English Thunderbird to use German formats.

Calendar and Chat improvements

Mozilla Thunderbird 60 also brings several new Calendar improvements, among which we can mention the ability to copy, cut or delete an entire series for recurring events or just a single one, support email scheduling for CalDAV servers that also support scheduling, and support for sending meeting notifications directly instead of using a pop-up.

Moreover, there's a new Calendar option that lets you display locations for events in both the Day and Week views, as well as another option for selecting the target calendar when pasting a task of an event. Last but not least, Thunderbird Chat received multiple built-in message themes. A complete changelog is available here.

Mozilla Thunderbird 60 is now available for download from thunderbird.net or via our software portal for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows systems. Unfortunately, an OTA (Over-the-Air) upgrade from previous Thunderbird versions isn't available at the moment of writing so you'll have to download the new version to upgrade.
