Mozilla has released a new major version of Firefox for all supported desktop platforms, namely Windows, Linux, and macOS.

The company hasn’t yet announced that official changelog, but this new release obviously comes with all the features tested as part of the previous betas, including the security fixes that have recently been introduced for version 74.

Firefox 75 comes at a time when the entire world is in lockdown, as Mozilla is set to stick with its original release schedule despite substantial changes announced by Google and Microsoft.

Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge will skip one major version of the browser, jumping directly to version 83 in May. This is because Google and Microsoft modified their release calendars to prevent any compatibility work that may be required for developers working from home during the pandemic.

Improved address bar

Firefox 75 is the first browser version shipped by Mozilla after the company switched to a faster release cadence with the launch of Firefox. Right now, Mozilla intends to roll out a new major version of Firefox every four weeks, as compared to six weeks before.

In other words, we’ll be getting new major Firefox updates at a much faster cadence than before, but on the other hand, the number of major improvements in each new version would obviously be reduced.

One of the changes that will make their way to Firefox 75 concerns the address bar, a feature that Mozilla announced in the first beta shipped on March 10.

“Type less, find more with Firefox’s revamped address bar. Now, just select the address bar, and a box will expand with links to your top sites. A redesigned interface provides a focused, clean search experience that’s optimized for smaller screens. Solutions to common browser issues now provided right in the search suggestions box,” the company said at that time.
