Microsoft’s Fluent Design makeover for Windows 10 also includes new icons that have already started rolling out earlier this year for Microsoft Office apps.

The company, however, appears to be working on a full set of new icons for its operating system, and after the File Explorer version was spotted a few days ago, the folks over at Aggiornamenti Lumia provide us with an early look at more icons coming to Windows 10.

Some of the apps getting new icons are the Weather app, Groove Music, Microsoft Solitaire, Movies & TV, and Microsoft Forms, all of them using the Fluent Design language and coming in line with the redesign that Microsoft released for Office apps as well.

No release specifics

At this point, however, it’s not yet clear when we should expect these icons to go live in Windows 10, albeit there’s a chance they are first supposed to be used in Windows Lite and make their way to full Windows at a later time.

However, there’s no doubt Microsoft would eventually roll them out in all Windows versions, as fresh icons represent a much needed overhaul of an otherwise outdated part of its operating system.

Many believe the right moment for Microsoft to introduce these new icons is the upcoming debut of the Windows 10 19H2 feature update. As per the company’s release schedule, this update should be finalized in September, while the rollout for production devices should kick off in October or November.

Microsoft, however, doesn’t need to wait for a feature update to roll out new icons for its apps, and living proof is redesign set for the Office suite. There’s a chance this release will take place in stages, albeit it remains to be seen when exactly the kickoff is supposed to happen.
