14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft handles the rollout of Windows 10 feature update with extra care after the October 2018 Update fiasco, so every time the company comes across major glitches that could affect the experience with the device, it sets new upgrade blocks to prevent the new release from installing.
This is what it’s happening right now on the Zebra XSLATE B10 tablets, a rugged Windows 10 tablet model that should otherwise be able to install the latest feature updates just fine.
According to a Microsoft advisory, these tablets are no longer allowed to install Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) and Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903) due to a compatibility glitch.
“If you are trying to update to the Windows 10 May 2019 Feature Update (Windows 10, version 1903) or the Windows 10 October 2018 Feature Update (Windows 10, version 1809), you may encounter an update compatibility hold and receive the message, ‘XSlate: Your PC isn't supported yet on this version of Windows 10. No action is needed. Windows Update will offer this version of Windows 10 automatically once the issue has been resolved,’” Microsoft explains in the linked advisory.
Losing touch support
Installing any of these two feature updates on an affected device could lead to lost touch support, the company warns.
“Zebra and Microsoft have found incompatibility issues with Windows 10, version 1903 or Windows 10, version 1809 and the Zebra XSLATE B10 tablets. In some circumstances, touch may stop working on the devices after restarting the device,” it says.
Zebra has also confirmed the bug in a tech support document and says more information would be offered as the investigation continues.
Meanwhile, users are recommended to avoid upgrading their devices using other methods, like the Media Creation Tool, as installing the October or the May updates could result in limited functionality of the tablet.
