One of the best games in the Monster Hunter franchise, Rise is getting the recognition it deserves not only from the critics and media but also from fans of the series. Capcom announced earlier today that Monster Hunter Rise sales recently surpassed 5 million units globally.

Not only that, but starting with the first title in 2004, the series established a new genre that has since grown into a global phenomenon with cumulative sales of the series exceeding 66 million units shipped as of December 31, 2020.

The fact that Monster Hunter Rise sold more than 5 million units just a week after launch is a great achievement especially since it's only been released on a single platform: Nintendo Switch. It's safe to assume that once the game makes it to PC in early 2022, the number of units sold could double or even triple.

In case you didn't know, Monster Hunter Rise was developed with Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE to offer players a new, accessible Monster Hunter experience that can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere, and with anyone. Also, besides the new monsters and locales, the game provides a completely fresh take on the hunting experience through a host of new hunting actions made possible with the Wirebug.

We've already detailed some of the new hunting actions in our Monster Hunter Rise review, so you can read more about these there. Long story short, the Wirebug lets players traverse terrain at high speed, or even bind monsters and control them.

On a related note, players who didn't have their Monster Hunter thirst quenched even after playing Rise, Capcom has another title in the works that will drop in just a few months. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a new RPG that will feature elements that can link with Monster Hunter Rise. The game is scheduled for release on July 9, 2021.
