14 DAY TRIAL // Monkey King, also known as Sun Wukong in Chinese, is a legendary figure that appeared for the first time in the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West and many later stories and adaptations.
There have been many movies and even video games that focused on Sun Wukong's adventured in China, and the last one comes from a trio of companies: THQ Nordic, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and Oasis Games Limited.
The game is called Monkey King: Hero is Back and is based on the animated film with the same name released four years ago in China. Jackie Chan is the actor who voiced the Monkey King in the English version of the movie, but he did not reprise his role in the game as well.
If you're a sucker for adaptations of one of China's most beloved novels – Journey to the West, Monkey King: Hero is Back is now available for PC and PlayStation 4. Along with the standard version, THQ Nordic is also selling the special “Hero Edition,” which includes two fresh and unique Monkey King skins, five Monkey King items, two game modes, and two additional stories (Uproar in Heaven and Mind Palace) that will be available as DLC.
The game follows the rise and fall of the all-powerful Monkey King, Sun Wukong, who is imprisoned by Buddha within an ice cage deep within the mountains after angering, defying and ultimately defeating the Gods.
Monkey King: Hero is Back plays like an action-adventure game from a third-person perspective. Players can unlock Monkey King's hidden powers and choose the skills that better fit their play style. The game features a combination of comical oriental action and adventure with simple controls and smooth maneuverability.
