Hideo Miyazaki, the leader of the team working on the Dark Souls 3, says that he considers the coming title to be the final one in the series, designed from the ground up to deliver closure to all fans who have appreciated the unique ideas he has created over the years.

Speaking to Gamespot as part of a bigger interview, the game maker explains that he believes the arrival in close succession of titles including Scholar of the First Sin for Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne (which is also getting an expansion) might be a sign that the franchise has been overexposed.

Miyazaki states, "I don’t think it’d be the right choice to continue indefinitely creating Souls and Bloodborne games. I’m considering Dark Souls 3 to be the big closure on the series. That’s not just limited to me, but From Software and myself together want to aggressively make new things in the future. I believe that From Software has to create new things."

The leader of the From Software team also says that his company is working on entirely new types of video games coming from the studio, although he has not offered any details on their exact nature.

Dark Souls 3 will be offered on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 in late March of next year in Japan, and on April 12 in the rest of the world.

Many fans of the series were expecting it to end at some point in the near future, but it is surprising to hear that Bloodborne is also being affected by the company's desire to work on new experiences.

Dark Souls 3 will deliver a conclusion for the larger themes of the series

Miyazaki makes it clear that he is interested in maintaining the ambiguity that has been at the core of the series, but he also plans to offer closure for fans, probably to allow them to move to new types of experiences.

The developer also explains that the recent network test beta for Dark Souls 3 only offers a small slice of gameplay, designed to be familiar to gamers who like the series, and is not representative of the changes that will be made for the full experience.

From Software will also use the feedback offered by the player community to improve the core mechanics but has not offered a list of the planned tweaks.

The studio previously said that it wanted to make the combat more dynamic in Dark Souls 3, giving players more options to deal with enemies.

A new Ready Stance is being added to spice up the various engagements.

The veteran game maker also claims he already has some clear idea about the titles that he wants to create with From Software in the coming year.

He also reveals that he is enjoying playing Hearthstone from a purely mechanical point of view and is not currently interested in playing Fallout 4 because his tastes gravitate more towards the fantasy setting of The Elder Scrolls.
