Microsoft was this close to buying TikTok earlier this year, but the negotiations eventually failed and ByteDance has then decided to form a strategic partnership with Oracle.

In the meantime, TikTok has continued its amazing growth to become the top-rated iPhone app in the United States this year, with 88 percent of the reviews published in the App Store being positive. Only 12 percent of the reviews rated the app with 1 to 3 stars.

The runner-up was Among Us!, a super-popular iPhone game, followed by Disney+, Zoom and YouTube. Surprisingly, however, 53 percent of the reviews YouTube received this year were 1 to 3 stars.

Facebook has the lowest rating

Facebook is the last in the carts with just 7 percent 4 and 5-star reviews.

“As of December 14, TikTok has received more than 278,000 written reviews, approximately 246,000 of which were accompanied by five- and four-star ratings while about 27,000 had one- and two-star ratings. We counted three-star ratings as neutral. Using this methodology, 88 percent of the reviews TikTok saw this year were positive, making it the best rated top app on the U.S. App Store in 2020,” Sensor Tower says in an analysis.

“The apps that have seen the most positive reviews this year are emblematic of the way mobile usage has trended in 2020, as consumers turned to their phones and tablets for entertainment following COVID-19 lockdowns in the U.S. and around the world. For most of this year, the mobile marketplace has seen a surge of interest in gaming and entertainment, and social juggernauts like TikTok have only accelerated their growth.”

For what it’s worth, none of Microsoft’s iPhone apps made the charts, despite the software giant struggling to improve its offering in the App Store. At this point, however, Microsoft is already offering several super-popular iPhone apps, such as SwiftKey and Outlook, both of which have millions of downloads in the store.
