The most used apps in the Microsoft Office productivity suite will soon feature a dark mode on iOS, according to the release notes of the latest Insider build for Apple’s platform.

Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote will all get a dark theme to align with the new system settings in iOS 13, as Microsoft wants its productivity apps to contribute to a more consistent experience overall on the iPhone.

Because iOS 13 comes with its very own dark mode, when enabling it and launching Microsoft Office apps, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote should automatically switch to dark as well. Going back to the light theme should enable the standard UI in these apps.

“Office gets easier to look at with support for iOS 13’s Dark Mode. Improved accessibility and an updated UI help keep you productive anywhere,” Microsoft says in the release notes of this new Office insider build for iOS.

Microsoft Office for iOS

The iOS version of Microsoft Office evolves at a super-fast pace, and the most recent insider builds provided us with an early glimpse into the feature lineup of the next major update.

For example, the October 1 update brought new privacy controls, including settings to disable and enable experiences to analyze content, like PowerPoint Designer or Word Editor, and features that download online content, such as PowerPoint Quick Starter or Office templates.

“We are continuing our commitment to bring increased transparency and customer control over the data collected when you are using Office apps to keep our products and services secure, up to date, and performing as expected,” Microsoft says.

Keep in mind that the new dark mode is currently available for insiders only, but it shouldn’t take too long before the stable versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote will be updated with the same visual improvements as well.
