Microsoft has made some changes to the official list of supported CPUs for Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update), according to a report.

Windows 10 version 1809 now works with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 850 chipset, Neowin discovered, which is the processor that Microsoft has picked for its Windows 10 on ARM push.

Windows 10 on ARM devices, also known as Always-Connected PCs, come with ARM CPUs specifically optimized for this operating system and capable of offering longer battery life. Snapdragon 850 will power the next-generation Always-Connected PCs, after the first models ran on Snapdragon 835.

As for Intel and AMD, Windows 10 October 2018 Update supports all the newest chipsets, and although the recently-announced ninth-generation Intel processors aren’t listed, there’s a good chance they will work just fine too.

For Intel, Windows 10 version 1809 can run on up to the following family of processors:

“Up through the following Intel 8th Generation Processors (Intel Core i3/i5/i7-8xxxK/U/G), 7th Generation Xeon E3-xxxx v6***, and through current Intel Atom (J4xxx/J5xxx and N4xxx/N5xxx), Celeron and Pentium Processors.”

In the case of AMD, the story is pretty much the same, and you can use up to the latest chip generation:

“Up through the following AMD 7th Generation Processors (A-Series Ax-9xxx & E-Series Ex-9xxx & FX-9xxx), AMD Athlon 2xx processors, AMD Ryzen 3/5/7 2xxx, AMD Opteron**** and AMD EPYC 7xxxx****”

Rollout suspended

As a reminder, the rollout of Windows 10 October 2018 Update was suspended last week after Microsoft acknowledged a bug potentially causing data losses to users.

While the software giant conducts its own investigation to determine the cause of the bug, all download methods have been pulled, and Microsoft recommends affected customers to get in touch with the company for assistance.

Later today, Microsoft could begin the automatic rollout of Windows 10 version 1809 via Windows Update for systems that aren’t affected by the bug.
