Second-generation all-in-one Studio launched

Microsoft has unveiled the second-generation Surface Studio at the company’s October 2 event, and as it happened in the case of the Surface Pro 6 and the Surface Laptop 2, most changes take place under the hood.

Aesthetically, the Surface Studio 2 looks just like the first-generation model, but Microsoft says that it has specifically upgraded the hardware to meet today’s expectations.

The 28-inch display, for example, features what Microsoft described as an all-new liquid crystal technology, boasting over 13.5 million pixels. At 500 nits, it’s 38 percent brighter and features 22 percent more contrast.

Microsoft Surface Studio 2 is powered by the Intel Core 7th Generation (not the 8th!) i7-7820HQ processor. Leaks that made the rounds several times lately indicated that the device wouldn’t use the latest-generation chips, possibly as a cost-saving measure, and as it turns out, they were accurate, as Microsoft sticks with the 7th generation Intel processors.

The chip is paired with a maximum of 32GB RAM, and in terms of storage, you can order the new all-in-one PC with a maximum of 2TB.

The Zero Gravity hinge is still there and so is the state-of-the-art support for the Surface Dial, though it’s worth mentioning that this accessory is obviously sold separately.

Unlike the other models launched this week, Surface Studio does come with USB-C, and it also features four different USB 3.0 port. There’s also a Gigabit Ethernet port and a microSD card reader.

Pricing of the Surface Studio 2 starts at $3,499 with just 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, while the top-of-the-line configuration can be yours for $4,799. It includes 32GB RAM and 2TB storage. A third configuration is sold for $4,199 with 1TB storage and 32GB RAM.

The new-generation Surface Studio is already available for pre-order, but shipping would only begin on November 15. Both Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 would go on sale this month.
