Windows 10 version 1709, also known as Fall Creators Update, will reach the end of servicing for Home, Pro, and Pro for Workstations editions next week.

The last updates for devices running these versions of Windows 10 will thus be published on April 9, which marks this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle.

Windows 10 version 1709, which officially became available on October 17, will continue to receive updates for Enterprise and Education editions for one more year. The end of support for these SKUs is planned for April 14, 2020.

Going forward, Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 Update) and Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update). A new version of Windows is projected to launch in late May as version 1903 and called May 2019 Update.

New update coming next month

The next in queue to go dark is the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, which will reach the end of servicing for Home and Pro SKUs on November 12, 2019.

Each Windows 10 Home, Pro, and Pro for Workstation release is serviced for 18 months after the public launch. The September feature update for Windows 10 Enterprise and Education receives updates for 30 months after the debut.

Users are thus recommended to update to the latest versions of Windows 10 not only to benefit from the latest improvements released by Microsoft, but also to continue getting updates and security patches. At this point, Windows 10 April 2018 Update is the number one version in use, followed by the October 2018 Update (whose rollout is still under way).

The current share of the Fall Creators Update is likely very small, so the end of support won’t hit too many devices. However, with a new version of Windows 10 already on the radar, users should begin planning the upgrade as soon as possible.
