Vertical tabs likely to be enabled in Canary rather soon

Earlier this year, Microsoft officially announced vertical tabs, a new feature for Microsoft Edge that made browsing with a ton of active tabs much more convenient.

The company, however, did not provide an ETA as to when this cool update could go live, but as it turns out, there’s a chance vertical tabs would finally make their debut in the Canary build of the browser rather sooner than later.

AL published a video on Twitter to show the new vertical tabs in Microsoft Edge, and while no information was provided as to how the feature was enabled, there’s a chance this is a pre-release build of the browser that already comes with vertical tabs built-in.

But on the other hand, if the feature is already being tested internally, it’s now just a matter of time until Microsoft makes it available for everyone out there, first in the Canary build and then gradually in the rest of the channels too.

Announced in March

“Today we announced vertical tabs, a feature that helps you easily find and manage many open tabs at once. Microsoft Edge is the only browser that allows you to manage your tabs on the side with a single click. Vertical tabs is expected in the Insider channels in the next few months,” Microsoft’s Liat Ben-Zur, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Edge, said back in late March.

The vertical tabs would arrive not only in the Windows version of Microsoft Edge, but also on macOS – and of course, in the Linux build too, once this one is finalized.

As a side note, Microsoft hasn’t provided any update on how the work progresses on the Linux version of Microsoft Edge, but I still expect a preview build to be released for testing by the end of the year.
