14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has recently announced that it would begin offering Windows 10 version 1809, also known as October 2018 Update, as an automatic download to PCs running Apple’s iCloud software.
Back in mid-November, Microsoft confirmed a compatibility issue in iCloud for Windows 10 that could have caused errors when upgrading to the October update.
The company decided to block the upgrade on these PCs until Apple rolled out a fix. Apple addressed the problem with an iCloud for Windows update later the same time, prompting users to install version 7.8.1 to be provided with a smooth upgrade to Windows 10 version 1809.
“We recommend that you update your iCloud for Windows to version 7.8.1 when prompted before attempting to upgrade to Windows 10, version 1809,” Microsoft said at that time.
Now the software giant explains that it’s ready to begin the automatic download of Windows 10 version 1809 on PCs where iCloud is installed, most likely as the majority of devices have already been updated to the latest release of Apple’s software.
Block about to be lifted
The block will be lifted in mid-February, so Apple users should begin seeing the October update in Windows Update later this month.
There’s no need to worry that your PC would be broken down, even if you are running an older version of iCloud. Microsoft says that if this is the case, you should see a prompt to install the latest version of iCloud before upgrading to version 1809.
“The upgrade bock will be removed mid-February, after which these devices will be offered Windows 10, version 1809 automatically. If you are running an older version of iCloud, you may receive a pop up from either Apple or Microsoft notifying you that you need to update your iCloud for Windows to version 7.8.1 before attempting to upgrade to Windows 10, version 1809,” the company now says.
Windows 10 October 2018 Update is now available for all users with a manual check for updates in Windows Update.
