A new Microsoft Surface model is on its way

Microsoft is expected to announce a new Surface event on September 30, and according to people familiar with the matter, the company could take the wraps off at least two new devices.

One of them is an improved Surface Pro X, presumably called Surface Pro X 2, that would come with upgraded species, including a new chip that could possibly include 5G capabilities.

The second device is a smaller Surface Laptop that could feature a 12.5-inch display, and leaker @cozyplanes claims this new product is going to be called Surface Swift.

International launch next year

While no specifics have been provided on its specs, it’s believed Microsoft Surface Swift could go on sale in the United States in October, but the international launch could be pushed back for a few months. In other words, those living in Europe, for example, won’t be able to get their hands on the Surface Swift until January next year.

Without a doubt, Microsoft’s purpose with these two new devices is to expand the Surface product portfolio and bring it to more buyers across the world.

Both the Surface Pro X 2 and the Surface Swift are supposed to come with a smaller price tag, and this means that the company wants to pack the premium quality that defines the Surface brand into a cheaper package that would thus become available to more potential customers.

Needless to say, there’s still a lot we don’t know about these new Surface models, so we’ll just have to wait a few more days until this mysterious event takes place. Until then, it’s better to just take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism and wait for the Redmond-based software giant to roll out the announcements.

It goes without saying that the September 30 event will happen online.
