An ARM-powered Surface Pro X is in the works

Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Surface Pro X model that could launch in the fall of this year, according to a new rumor.

More specifically, an ARM-powered Surface Pro X could go live as soon as the fall, and a report from Windows Central indicates that the experience will be powered by the Microsoft SQ2 processor.

In its turn, this new chip will be based on the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G developed by Qualcomm, so theoretically, it will also come with support for 5G capabilities. At this point, however, it’s still not clear if Microsoft wants to bring 5G to this new model.

Microsoft typically holds hardware events in the fall, so there’s a chance that the new Surface Pro X would see daylight in October or November.

The Surface Pro X hasn’t necessarily been the most successful Surface model to date, despite Microsoft putting a lot of effort into highlighting its capabilities.

“Wherever the day takes you, be ready for anything with Surface Pro X. Featuring blazing-fast LTE connectivity, our thinnest Surface stands out with two USB-C ports and a stunning, virtually edge-to-edge 13” touchscreen. Stay in touch with blazing fast LTE Advanced Pro, all day battery life (up to 13 hours) and fast charging.  Ultra-portable at 7.3mm thin and weighing just 1.7 pounds. See and do more on the virtually edge-to-edge PixelSense 13” display touchscreen with signature 3:2 ratio to give you the most workspace possible. Get back to work faster with Instant On and wake on open,” Microsoft explains.

Needless to say, this is just a rumor for the time being, so take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism until we hear more about it from Microsoft itself, most likely later this fall.
