Movies & TV apps for Android and iOS currently in the works

Microsoft is working to bring another Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile app to Android and iOS, as the company wants to make its services available to all users regardless of the platform.

With Windows 10 Mobile already dead, Microsoft is slowly changing its focus on other mobile platforms, so launching its services on Android and iOS makes sense considering this strategy.

The next in queue appears to be the Movies & TV app, currently available on Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile only, though the latter barely receives any improvements.

This means that Microsoft is planning to take on Google and Apple right on their own playground, as Movies & TV would have to compete against iTunes and Google Play Movies & TV. Needless to say, there are plenty of other third-party solutions with millions of users on these platforms, but Microsoft hopes that most of its customers would choose this homegrown solution.

Work in progress

At this point, no ETA is available, but Microsoft is working on the app for Android and iOS at a fast pace. Work is in progress, so the company avoids making any release date prediction, according to a report from WindowsCentral, though it’s expected that the first preview builds may make it to non-Microsoft devices by the end of the year.

Microsoft has adopted a similar approach with Microsoft Edge browser too. After previously releasing the browser as a Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile-exclusive, the death of its mobile platform pushed the company towards this new strategy that brought Edge to Android and iOS devices as well.

Right now, Microsoft is very committed to both ecosystems, with its apps receiving millions of downloads. Apps like Microsoft Office, Microsoft Launch, Cortana, and Microsoft Edge are being used on a growing number of devices, and Microsoft delivers updates regularly to improve performance and ship new features.
