Microsoft Teams is currently experiencing connectivity issues in Europe, most likely to the high usage recorded as people stay home due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Microsoft is yet to acknowledge the problem, but the downtime showed up on Monday morning when the number of connected users is believed to have reached another all-time high.

There are several reports on DownDetector from people claiming they are no longer able to connect to Microsoft Teams, and many claim the issues still persist at the time of writing this article.

Of course, there’s nothing you can do right now than wait, as Microsoft is the only one to resolve the issue. The official communications channel that Microsoft uses to confirm such incidents are currently tight-lipped on everything related to Microsoft Teams.

Record usage

With the number of people infected with the new coronavirus growing in every single country and Europe currently in lockdown, the number of companies and users who turn to solutions like Microsoft Teams is obviously increasing.

Microsoft recently revealed that it reached 44 million active users on Microsoft Teams every day, and the company also announced a series of changes to deal with the high usage, including a throttle of non-essential features.

It’s pretty clear more work in this regard is absolutely needed to avoid outages, especially as the number of people who work from home is likely to increase even further in the coming weeks.

The good news is that the outage seems to be rather limited at this point, as Microsoft Teams is still working just as expected for others. So if the service is currently down and you can no longer connect, just wait for Microsoft to fix the outage, as the software giant is most likely working on dealing with the problem as we speak.
