The adoption of Microsoft Teams has improved substantially in the last few weeks, according to Microsoft, and it’s all because of the coronavirus outbreak that forces employees to work from home.

Seeking collaborative products, many companies turn to Microsoft Teams, Flora Chen, vice general manager for the company's 365 Business Group, was quoted as saying by Digitimes.

The adoption of Microsoft Teams doubled in February versus January, and it’s all because the number of employees staying at home due to the coronavirus increased substantially as well. In Taiwan alone, sales of Microsoft Teams increased by 50 percent year-over-year, the Microsoft official said, and worldwide, the company now has 20 million active users every day.

High-tech manufacturing, banking, finance, and retail companies are the ones embracing Microsoft Teams over coronavirus concerns, the Microsoft representative revealed.

The coronavirus effect

The adoption of all remote solutions increased substantially lately, and in China, in particular, the record number of employees working from home caused a nationwide outage last month.

Products like Alibaba’s DingTalk and Tencent’s WeChat Work experienced disruptions in early February due to many companies asking employees to stay at home to avoid the virus and to connect to their own internal networks using collaborative solutions.

“Microsoft Teams is the only platform with tailored capabilities to connect everyone in your company, from the C-suite to the firstline, in one digital workspace. Our capabilities are built for your customer support staff, IT help desk, store associates, line workers and more,” Microsoft says.

“We have delivered many features that are already available in your tenant today, and coming soon, several new features will provide new ways of communication and collaboration across your entire organization.”

The coronavirus outbreak expands to more regions across the world, so there’s a good chance the adoption of Microsoft Teams will continue to improve in the coming weeks in other countries as well.
