Microsoft has officially taken the wraps off the new Surface Laptop, and just as expected, it comes with the same design, changes in the color lineup, and upgraded hardware under the hood.

In other words, if you were hoping for the Surface Laptop 4 to be a completely new beast, well, it isn’t, as Microsoft focused mostly on equipping the device with the latest-generation hardware.

The Cobalt Blue option is gone, but instead, Microsoft is adding the Ice Blue color that debuted not a long time ago on the Surface Laptop Go. Ice Blue is available with Alcantara, joining Platinum, Sandstone, and Black for a four-color lineup.

In terms of hardware, there are two Surface Laptop 4 versions, namely 13.5-inch and 15-inch, and as compared to the previous generation model, this time the Intel and AMD processor options are available for both of them.

Intel configurations come with 11th generation chips and Iris Xe graphics, while AMD versions are equipped with Ryzen 4000 processors.

“Surface Laptop 4 offers a choice between either the 11th Gen Intel Core processors, or AMD Ryzen Mobile Processors with Radeon Graphics Microsoft Surface Edition (8 cores); in either case, you’ll find a smooth experience that powers modern, multitasking demands. Across both options, we’ve partnered to customize silicon in ways that boost performance while offering improved battery life,” Microsoft explains.

Other than that, the Surface Laptop 4 is pretty much the same device as its predecessor, so you still get a built-in HD front-facing camera, a 201 PPI touchscreen display, Dolby Atmos Omnisonic speakers, as well as USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports.

The Surface Laptop 4 is going on sale in the United States, Canada, and Japan starting today at $999, and Microsoft says more regions are projected to get the new device in the coming weeks.
