Microsoft has recently released the Surface Duo in international markets, but the company is also working on the second-generation model, and according to a new discovery, the Redmond-based software giant firm wants the upgraded device to come with latest-generation specs out of the box.

Microsoft itself is the one that spilled the beans on the Surface Duo 2, confirmed in a set of listings on the Microsoft Careers website spotted by WL that its second-generation dual-screen Android phone is codenamed Zeta and is projected to come with 5G.

This isn’t necessarily surprising, especially because 5G is the new must-have feature for flagship devices in the mobile market, and without a doubt, Microsoft itself doesn’t want to be late to the party.

“Job responsibilities will encompass working across a team of high impact individuals who are designing and coding RF drivers, RF board bring up including LTE and 5G technologies, factory tools, modem protocols, mobile operator certifications and PTCRB/GCF certifications on Surface Duo devices. The job is highly dynamic and involves working across various disciplines to successfully deliver the product with the Surface Duo experience and quality,” one job ad reads.

Expensive piece of technology

In addition, the Surface Duo is also expected to come with other welcome hardware upgrades, including an improved camera, Android 11 out of the box, and up to 6GB of RAM, according to information currently available online.

On the other hand, it’s still not clear what processor Microsoft wants to use, as going for the latest Snapdragon would guarantee the best possible performance, though it all depends on when exactly the company plans to release the device.

One thing is certain, though: the Surface Duo 2 is likely to remain a rather expensive gadget, with the base model expected to sell for approximately $1,500 after its launch.
