New ideas will be piloted in the Insider program

Microsoft has recently revealed that Windows Spotlight is scheduled to receive a design update at one point, but before this happens, the company wants to try out several ideas with help from insiders enrolled in the Dev channel.

As such, the company will ship a series of experiments for Windows Spotlight, with insiders to receive various versions in the coming weeks.

Worth knowing is that not everybody is getting the same Windows Spotlight design update, as Microsoft is now in the phase where it wants to collect feedback before improving the availability of a specific version.

“Starting with this build, we are beginning to try out different treatments for how Windows Spotlight looks. All treatments will continue to share existing core Windows Spotlight features such as hovering over the icon on the desktop, right-clicking on the icon on the desktop, and double-clicking on the icon on the desktop,” Microsoft says.

“The treatments for Spotlight will include richer UI around displaying the title and description and learning more information about the image displayed on your desktop via Spotlight. We’re also trying out different ways of switching to different pictures with previews, a full-screen experience, and a minimized experience. Insiders in the Dev Channel will see different treatments across their PCs so not everyone will see the same thing and the treatments will be shown in English only.”

Windows Spotlight is without a doubt one of the coolest features in Windows, as it allows users to get a different high-quality wallpaper every day. Originally launched on the lock screen, Spotlight is now available on the desktop as well, so the high-res backgrounds are enabled in more parts of Windows.

Of course, there’s no ETA as to when Microsoft plans to release the final Spotlight update, but for now, if you want to try out the new ideas, you have to be a part of the Insider program.
