Microsoft is betting big on Microsoft Edge browser in the long term, so the company is investing big on new capabilities that would make its app a better alternative to the likes of Chrome and Firefox.

But at the same time, the Redmond-based software giant also hopes more users would give a try to its mobile app, as Edge is now available on Android and iPhone too.

Needless to say, Microsoft hopes people would stick with Edge browser on all platforms, so it has even developed sync features that would allow some data to roam between devices when the same Microsoft account is used.

So right now, Microsoft Edge is available almost everywhere, including Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Linux, macOS, Android, and iPhone.

Try the browser recommended by Microsoft

As noted by Neowin, Microsoft now hopes that those who installed Edge on the desktop would give a try to the mobile version too, so it started showing messages in the browser to prompt them to download the app on the smartphone.

“Sync your PC and your mobile devices. Pick up where you left off with Microsoft Edge for your phone or tablet. Scan the QR code to get started,” Microsoft says in a message that now shows up in the settings screen of Edge on the desktop. A QR code is also generated to take users right to the download page of the mobile browser in the App Store or Google Play Store.

The good news is the message isn’t at all intrusive, as it only shows up in the settings screen, without any notification or things like that displayed to the user.

So at the end of the day, it’s perfectly alright if you agree to install Edge mobile, with a dismiss button also shown should you never want to see the message again.
