In the meantime, there’s a workaround to help you

A recent bug discovered in Microsoft Edge browser causes the browser to crash when users load YouTube, and needless to say, given how popular Google’s video sharing service has become, the issue affects quite a lot of users.

Microsoft, however, has already acknowledged the problem, with an Edge engineer recently explaining that a full fix is still in the works for everybody.

However, a workaround has already been provided, and it’s available in the Canary build of the browser.

“It is indeed video related, I can confirm that much. I can also say that if you are still experiencing this, we're still working on getting it sorted out. The Canary fix I mentioned helped a lot of people, but not everyone, and there's an upstream fix coming in soon. I'm not entirely sure when that will be, but I will follow up with you once I know,” the Microsoft engineer explained on reddit.

Fix on the way

In the meantime, sticking with the Canary version of Microsoft Edge is pretty much the best option if you too are hitting issues on YouTube.

“Head over to our Insider website to download and install our Canary channel. Watch a YouTube video you know to cause the issue at hand, and let me know your results there. If you continue to see issues, know that we are still investigating. I will provide updates here as I get them,” the engineer added.

Oddly enough, the issue doesn’t seem to be hitting all users, as YouTube is still working properly on my device running the latest stable version of Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 version 20H2. However, Microsoft says it’s still trying to determine if the Canary fix does the trick for everybody, so an update in this regard is likely just around the corner.
