A driver bug discovered shortly after the release of Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) prompted Microsoft to issue a ban and prevent potentially affected devices from receiving the new OS version.

And as the rollout of the October update advances, the company says that the block stays in place for a little longer until the new drivers released by Intel become available for all devices.

In an updated KB page, Microsoft says that Intel has already corrected the reported bugs, but the new drivers have only been released to OEM devices manufacturers. Until they become available via Windows Update, the block just stays there in an attempt to prevent users from experiencing other issues.

“Microsoft has identified issues with certain new Intel display drivers. Intel inadvertently released versions of its display driver (versions 24.20.100.6344, 24.20.100.6345) to OEMs that accidentally turned on unsupported features in Windows,” Microsoft says about the issue.

“Intel has released updated drivers to OEM device manufacturers. OEMs need to make the updated driver available via Windows Update,” it adds.

No ETA has been provided as to when the ban could be lifted for these Intel devices.

AMD Radeon issue fixed

Additionally, Microsoft says it has already resolved a bug hitting AMD Radeon HD2000 and HD4000 series graphics cards. Due to a bug acknowledged in October, devices with such hardware could have experienced issues in Microsoft Edge, so Microsoft blocked the upgrade.

But in a recent update, the software giant claims a fix has already been developed and it’s now being offered to devices via Windows Update. The ban has thus been lifted and all AMD devices should be able to update to version 1809 without any restrictions.

Microsoft is now in the process of offering Windows 10 version 1809 as an automatic download to devices across the world, and the update can be installed manually by all users from Windows Update.
