And not coming to users in Windows 10 build 19841

A finding that made the rounds a few days ago indicated that Microsoft was ready to bring back Sets to Windows 10 insiders, and build 19481 was supposed to be the release making this happen.

Sets was a feature that brought tabs all across Windows 10, essentially addressing one of the top feature requests in the operating system, but with a much more substantial overhaul.

Users have been requesting tabs in File Explorer for many years already, and Microsoft wanted to make everything possible with Sets, yet this feature would have allowed tabs to be enabled not only in the file manager, but also at OS level.

The development work on Sets, however, was suspended before this feature got the chance to make it to production builds, and while Microsoft said it could bring it back at some point in the future, no specifics were provided.

So when reports swirling around the web started pointing to a possible return in Windows 10 build 19481, many got excited.

Sets not dead either

But according to Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager at Microsoft, that’s not going to happen.

“Nope,” he briefly answered when discussing Sets coming back to users with Windows 10 build 19481.

However, it’s not easy to figure out that Brandon LeBlanc hasn’t denied that Sets would be making a comeback sooner or later, and if I were to guess, I’d say the feature could be here by the end of the year.

Most likely, Microsoft is aiming to bring back Sets in Windows 10 20H1, which is projected to go live in the spring of 2020. This means the company needs to include it in preview builds as soon as possible, especially because collecting feedback is critical in order to make sure everything’s running smoothly.

For now, however, Sets doesn’t seem to be ready to make its comeback, albeit I wouldn’t be too surprised if it’s here rather sooner than later.
