Next update coming on July 9, the company promises

Microsoft Edge Dev, the early version of the new Chromium-based browser being developed by Microsoft, won’t receive an update this week due to the July 4th national holiday in the United States.

Right now, Microsoft maintains Microsoft Edge as part of two different channels called Canary and Dev.

Builds that are released as part of the Canary track receive updates every day, whereas the Dev builds are typically updated every week. Microsoft Edge Dev is thus considered the more stable flavor of the two.

Next Microsoft Edge Dev update coming in a few days

But because most of the Edge team would receive some days off as part of the July 4th holiday, Microsoft says a new update for the browser won’t land this week. Instead, a new pack of improvements for Microsoft Edge Dev is scheduled for July 9, so you only have to wait a few more days for this update.

“We have decided not to publish a Developer channel update today, 7/2/2019. Thursday, 7/4 is a national holiday in the US and all Microsoft offices will be closed. We intend to update the Developer channel as normal on 7/9/2019,” Elliot Kirk, Senior Software Engineer on the Microsoft Edge team, announced on the official forums.

The announcement concerns both Windows and macOS builds of Microsoft Edge.

The most recent version of Microsoft Edge Dev is 77.0.197.1, and it was released to Windows 10 and macOS testers last week.

In the meantime, there’s still no word as to when Microsoft could roll out the beta builds of Microsoft Edge. People familiar with the matter said Microsoft wants to finalize the transition to the Chromium engine sometime this year, so we should expect the stable version of Microsoft Edge sometime in the next few months.
