Microsoft has decided to bring the autocorrection and prediction engine that’s bundled into its super-popular SwiftKey keyboard app for Android and iOS to Windows 10.

The latest preview build of Windows 10 Redstone 5 comes with the SwiftKey intelligence, making it easier for users to type using the touch keyboard.

This is actually one of the most important bits of info regarding today’s release: SwiftKey is powering the touch keyboard in Windows 10, so this feature will be mostly useful to those with a tablet or who rely on the touch keyboard on a 2-in-1 device.

Just like on Android and iOS, SwiftKey will provide autocorrections and predictions as users type, and features like swiping will also be supported. For the time being, the new keyboard will only support a handful of languages, like English (United States), English (United Kingdom), French (France), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Brazil), or Russian.

Coming to everyone in the fall

In the future, however, Microsoft will add support for more languages, so expect news in this regard from future preview builds of Redstone 5. SwiftKey on Android and iOS comes with support for a very wide array of languages, and this is exactly what’s making it one of the most advanced and most accurate third-party keyboard apps on mobile.

Microsoft purchased SwiftKey in February 2016 at a time when the company was still committed to improving Windows 10 Mobile. Although it was originally believed that SwiftKey would eventually be brought to Windows phones as well, this plan has changed after the demise of Windows 10 Mobile, and now the company is working on integrating the keyboard app in Windows 10.

Redstone 5 is projected to be finalized in September ahead of the public rollout in October, so all users will be allowed to try out the implementation of SwiftKey in Windows 10 later this year in the fall.
