SwiftKey updated with cursor control on Android

We’ve known for a while that SwiftKey is one of the best, if not really the best, third-party keyboard on both iPhone and Android, and every single update that Microsoft releases further polishes the experience for everybody.

The most recent beta update for SwiftKey on Android comes with an essential feature: cursor control.

As weird as this may sound, SwiftKey, which is one super-advanced keyboard app for mobile devices, was until now lacking cursor control on Android, something that even the most basic alternatives come with.

Maybe the company has just busy adding support for hundreds of languages and forgot about this little feature, who knows.

The good news is that starting with version 7.6.2.4 beta, SwiftKey comes with cursor control too, and you can now just press and hold the spacebar to enable it, just like you do on the many other keyboards out there.

Still in beta though

On the other hand, don’t forget that this update is still in the beta stage, so it could take a while until it is promoted to the stable channel. However, I expect this to happen rather sooner than later, and with a little luck, it should be here in a few weeks for everybody.

In the meantime, if you’re wondering just how popular SwiftKey has become on Android, a quick look at the official figures posted in the Google Play Store should be enough. Right now, SwiftKey has over 500 million downloads from the Play store alone, and this figure does not include the downloads that users turn to with the dedicated APK installers.

In other words, there’s a chance that even many more devices than that actually run SwiftKey, and it happens for a good reason: it has one of the best prediction engines out there, making typing on a mobile device so much more convenient.
